Hi! My name is Carolyn Fish. I am the instructor for GEOG 160 Web this semester. I am a PhD Candidate here at Penn State. I live in State College, PA and I love it here. There are so many hiking trails close by of which I eagerly take advantage.
My expertise is in Geographic Information Systems/Science (GIS/GIScience) which you will learn about here in 160. This is the introductory course to these exciting fields which focus on introducing you to the power of mapping the world around you. I have taught several GIS course labs here at Penn State and also Michigan State where I completed my master’s degree. Additionally, I also worked as a Cartographic Product Engineer for the world-leader in GIS software, Esri. Some of Esri’s software will be useful to you in your projects in this course. 
My research broadly focuses on climate change communication of maps in the media and focuses on cartographic design for the public. Over this semester, I will be doing some of my research which takes me to some interesting places here in the US (The New York Times, Washington Post, National Geographic, NASA, and NOAA) to do interviews about how cartographers design maps to communicate climate change to the public. 
I look forward to getting to know all of you and to seeing you explore mapping our changing world for the first time here at Penn State!

Emily Domanico

Hello! I'm Emily Domanico, I am a TA for GEOG 160 in Fall 2017. I am a masters student in the geography department at Penn State.  Following my undergraduate background in art history and chemistry at UC Berkeley, I pivoted from a study of authenticity and copies to a study of GIS and map making.  I have work experience in large scale utility audits in California and map making for a driverless car company in San Francisco. I love exploring maps, both current and archival, and matching data visualization to communication needs. Within the geography department, I will be studying goevisualization techniques, GIS, and cartography with an interest in urban centers, transportation and public resources. 

Harrison Cole

I’m Harrison Cole, I am a TA for GEOG 160 in Fall 2017. I am a Ph.D. student in Geography here at Penn State. I have a broad range of research interests, from organ transplantation to supply chain management, and I’m currently researching virtual reality. I studied GIS during my undergraduate years at the University of Texas at Austin, and worked at the City of Austin planning department creating interactive online maps for public use. I then completed my master’s at the University of Kentucky, where I was a TA for a course on GIS, mapping and society.
