Lesson 4: GUI Development

PrintPrint

We made it to the final week of this course! That deserves congratulations and a pat on the back! In this lesson, we will look at creating software applications to give our scripts and code a means to be used outside of the IDE or command line. This lesson covers ESRI’s script tool, introduces the ArcGIS for .Net SDK (which is beyond the scope of this course and would take another 8 weeks to dive into), Python's GUI (Graphic User Interface) development PyQT, Open source QGIS, and lastly Jupyter Notebooks.

Special note- The QGIS and OSGEO environment can be temperamental and while QGIS is topic covered by this lesson, setting it up can often take a week or longer. I suggest reading over the PyQt / QGIS content and just be aware of its syntax and implementation. You can also explore the full topic here and get a complete context for QGIS. I would encourage you to try it if you have the time.

All good things must come to an end, so let's get started!
